At Robinsons Supermarket, “green is definitely the color associated with health and wellness as the color, through tags, has find its way into products that are categorized as good for one’s health.

Robinsons Supermarket employs a four-color shelf tag system that helps shoppers choose the right products suited for their needs.

Products labeled green are those that fit different nutritional needs. There are products with low sodium, energy (calorie), fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. Green labeled products also include those that are good sources of fiber and protein and are sugar-free.

To help carry out the “green” labels, Robinsons Supermarket partnered with the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Science and Technology to properly label the products. The FNRI-DOST employed the Guidelines for Use of Nutrition and Health Claims, an internationally known standard referred to by nutritionists.

Products labeled with green tags help shoppers choose the foods they need. For instance, if a shopper is allergic to too much salt, he can choose the low-salt product (labeled in green w/code LWSLT) over the others. Some who need more fiber can likewise easily find products that are rich in fiber just by looking at the green tags.

The Whole Health Section inside Robinsons Supermarket is where consumers can find the green tagged/labeled products, which are conveniently arranged in shelves.

The FNRI-DOST considers all foods healthy as long as they are taken in the right amounts under its labeling system.

Based on the food pyramid, different people have their own nutritional needs. Through the green tags and health and nutrition information posters in the Whole Health Section, Robinsons Supermarket helps shoppers choose the products that fit their varying lifestyles by making available right information on the products.

To complement the “health and wellness” campaign of Robinsons Supermarket, the company also made its employees undergo a nutrition training under the FNRI-DOST to educate them about basic nutrition, which they can pass on to shoppers.

The FNRI also provided Robinsons Supermarket with health articles and nutrition information that are passed on to shoppers through monthly health leaflets and website articles. Topics include: how to prepare healthy snacks, meal planning, and encouraging kids to eat right.

Products that we use and then dispose of without a care in the world have been impacting the earth

Plastic shopping bags are prime example. billions of them produced.used, and disposed of unwittingly. the bad news however is that they're not biodegradable and toxic to the environment.

In a campaign to reduce non biodergadable waste and for overail support for the global green campaign, Robinsons Supermarket has embarked on a promotion to encourage the use of reusable shopping bags among shoppers.

Robinsons Supermarket has partnered with the solid Waste Manegement Association of the Philippines for the "Ecpsavers bag Project" under the scheme, shoppers donate P5 to SWAPP for every purchase of the reusable bag. And everytime they re-use the bag at any Robinsons Supermarket, regardless of the purchase amount, P1 of the amount will be given to the SWAPP.

SWAPP is a non profit membership organization composed of solid waste practitioners from local goverment units, national goverment agencies, nongoverment organizations, and the academe. its aim is to empower local goverments, communities and the private sector towards a clean, safe and sustainable environment.
